About Us: Johns Hopkins is renowned for its commitment to excellence in patient care, research, and education. Our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department provides a wide spectrum of services, including gender-affirmation surgery, breast reconstruction, trauma, and complex surgical wound care. In addition, this position will play a crucial role in supporting the Medical Director for the Center for Transgender and Gender Expansive Health’s reconstructive surgery practice.

Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing gender-affirmation surgery and other reconstructive procedures. This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with leading experts in the field of transgender and gender expansive health.

Shift:

  • Full-Time (5 days, Monday to Friday)
  • Day shift
  • No nights or weekends
  • No call

Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Physician Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Participate in attending clinics alongside the physician to develop patient care plans.
  • Place relevant referrals, lab work, and orders as needed.
  • Conduct independent clinic sessions for follow-up and post-operative care.
  • Assist with paperwork, including FMLA, disability documentation, and gender marker changes.
  • Perform peer-to-peer reviews for insurance coverage denials related to gender surgery.
  • Provide patient and caregiver education in the perioperative period.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care.
  • Provide education to hospital staff on treatment and care for patients of the Johns Hopkins Center for Transgender & Gender Expansive Health.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Registered/certified by the Washington D.C. Board of Quality Assurance.
  • Board certified (or certification-eligible for new graduates) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current Washington D.C. licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Commitment to providing compassionate care to transgender, nonbinary, gender fluid, or questioning patients.
