IT@JH Epic Application Coordinator-Senior Level:

Johns Hopkins Medicine has FIVE levels to its Application Coordinator roles. This enriching and rewarding career opportunity were created to fit a variety of skill sets and talents across IT, Clinical, and Business areas that support our medical communities.

The Senior Epic Ambulatory Digital Analyst, with minimal supervision, is responsible for system design, build, testing, validation, documentation, leading small to medium scale of IT projects, and ongoing support of assigned applications. The senior analyst will work with key stakeholders, end users, and team members to identify and resolve issues, provide high-quality deliverables, meet deadlines, and provide effective communication across multiple Epic modules. This position may require mentoring junior clinical systems analysts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to provide complex application support, identify specifications, analyze complex results, propose solutions and/or recommendations in addition to building, configuring and/or modifying applications using existing application tools. At least one of the following Epic Certifications is required: MyChart, Care Everywhere, EpicCare Link, Healthy Planet. Remote work is permitted in the following states with an on-site requirement monthly: Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Florida.

This position represents an opportunity to join our Epic Ambulatory Digital Team one of the three levels described below. 

General Position Summary:

The Application Coordinator (AC) participates in the development and design of the application(s) for which the AC is responsible and is required to gain an in-depth knowledge of the assigned Epic module(s).     

  • Demonstrates proficiency in understanding computer systems, applications and interfaces.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in data gathering techniques and the ability to design andcommunicate systems solutions to user issues and problems of medium complexity.  
  • Demonstrates an intermediate understanding of the relevant clinical and/or business operation functions.
  • May require specialized knowledge in a specific application/module/computer system.
  • Creates detailed work-related specifications, system design documentation, procedures, process flows, data flows and project and change management plans.
  • Communicates effectively with users and colleagues.  Conducts regular day-to-day communication with JHM teams and vendor’s installation team.
  • Demonstrates proficient degree of analytical skills.
  • Supports multiple concurrent work efforts, educates and coaches other team members, and works with minimal supervision in support of team initiatives.
  • Works as a member of a specific application team as well as with other application and technical teams.
  • Responsible for developing and documenting the internal procedures that will be used in conjunction with applications.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency with complex projects in creating detailed documentation, including system design documentation, procedures, process and data flows, project plans, and recommendations for system enhancements and replacements.
  • Demonstrates advanced interpersonal skills to effectively interface with department heads, University, Hospital and Health System personnel, vendors, and consultants, to lead projects.  Able to effectively communicate and interact with staff.
  • Leads and mentors lower-level ACs in the development, implementation, and problem resolution of an application through planning, scheduling, assigning, coordinating, and reviewing tasks performed by project team members.  May provide input to the yearly performance evaluation of staff.

Required Job Qualifications for Application Coordinator II-IV Roles:

Education:          

Baccalaureate degree, education or health related field with educational courses. Professional certification(s) and/or related experience beyond minimum training experience qualifications may substitute for formal education requirement on a two years’ experience-for-one year education basis.

EPICCertifications:

Required to complete and pass certification in assigned EPIC application module(s) within 120 days of employment in this role.

Experience:

Application Coordinator II

  • Two years operational experience in a clinical or healthcare business operations setting or two years’ experience in Information Technology. 
  • General understanding of the work flows in clinical or healthcare business operations.

Application Coordinator III

  • Three years operational experience in a clinical or healthcare business operations setting or three years’ experience in Information Technology. 
  • General understanding of the work flows in clinical or healthcare business operations.

Application Coordinator IV

  • Five years operational experience in a clinical or healthcare business operations setting or five years’ experience in Information Technology. 
  • General understanding of the work flows in clinical or healthcare business operations.

Preferred Job Qualifications for Application Coordinator II-IV Roles:

  • Experience with implementing clinical and/or healthcare business information systems in a large-scale and complex healthcare organization. 
  • Epic certification in the module(s) being represented.
  • Experience in Epic installations.
  • Knowledge of the current healthcare environment.
  • Experience in developing business and/or clinical workflows related to the assigned application module.
