The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

Working collaboratively with providers, nurses, and other health care providers, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists in Emergency Medicine provide clinical pharmacy services to patients in the Emergency Department (medication order verification, code coverage, clinical medication management) serving as the drug expert helping to manage the complex pharmacotherapy regimen of each patient. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialists actively manage and adjust medication therapies via drug therapy management agreements with prescribers and help manage drug costs by ensuring formulary and stewardship guidelines are followed. Responsibilities for the position include: comprehensive medication management, interdisciplinary decision making, emergency code response, care coordination, education, policy/procedure development, and research activities. They will provide drug information and education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm D. or BS degree.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 residency program in Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner’s practice setting by Division Director is required within 2 years of start date.
