Reports to: ETSO/Engineering Services/Enterprise UNIX Systems Manager

Job Specific Knowledge: Requires detailed installation, configuration, troubleshooting of the internals of Linux/UNIX operating environment (RedHat Linux). Ability to create and manage medium to large scale operating system and associated program product component upgrades. Knowledge of and practical experience performing capacity planning and performance tuning across the Linux/UNIX environments. Ability to quickly assess systems related problems and provide resolutions with minimal impacts to user community. Experience in configuring the Linux/UNIX operating environment for a 24x7 environment utilizing clustering technology. Ability to develop Linux/UNIX strategic planning documents, present to audiences at all levels, and obtain justification for initiatives to move towards an integrated health care delivery information systems environment.

Primary Duties: Design, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot complex RedHat server operating systems environments.

Collaborate through one-on-one discussions and meeting based opportunities with customers as well as the rest of the Enterprise Linux/UNIX Technical Services team. Provide project management functions to projects while performing Linux/UNIX operating systems installations, testing, maintenance, production implementation and tuning in both on-prem and Cloud platform.

Work in unison with other team members to ensure complete and accurate implementation of changes utilizing department approved Change Management and team policies.

Ability to establish and meet work schedules within limited time frames and under tight deadlines, willingness to work off hours as needed in support of changes to the computing environment as well as willingness to carry a pager for 24X7 support.

Secondary Duties: Ability to provide operating system-based insights to other Enterprise Linux/UNIX Technical Services staff to support their efforts, help them trouble-shoot their problems, and assist in tuning non-operating system components. Knowledge of building and managing Virtual Machines with VMware is required. Understanding of Microsoft Azure, High-Performance Compute (HPC) environment, Automation/version control tools like Ansible, GIT, etc. would be a plus.

Training/Mentoring: Pursue appropriate on-the-job or formal training opportunities to remain current with technology appropriate to job functions. Provides technical collaboration, project coordination within the technical group as well as across multiple technical groups within the organization.

Work Environment/Hours of Coverage: Expected to support systems that may be located in geographically distributed data centers. On-call rotation participation is required 7x24x365.

Competencies:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field is required. Additional experience may be substituted for education.

  • Intermediate knowledge of systems and data flow diagrams and other analysis artifacts.
  • Strong understanding of testing and quality assurance processes with entry-level complexity.

  • Intermediate knowledge in the assigned IT environments.

C. Skills:

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.

  • Four years of related experience with autonomous administration, programming, maintenance, performance, implementation, security and support of various departmental and enterprise wide multiple platforms; complex business, clinical, education, or infrastructure solutions
