Position Summary:
The Supervisor of Cardiac Rehabilitation will manage and maintain all operations associated with the cardiac rehabilitation department which includes clinical protocols. Position functions as a patient educator, practice builder, financial analyst, inventory manager and monitors equipment maintenance.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Work requires a master’s degree in exercise physiology or related field and 3 years previous experience in cardiac and pulmonary patient care and/or stress testing. Previous supervisory experience required.
- Valid CPR and ACLS required.
- Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical or technical principles
- Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain medical center policies and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and/or medical center employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate.
- Must complete the Training Checklist for Managers and Supervisors within twelve months of employment/promotion date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Managing short and long-term operation of cardiac rehabilitation
- Oversight and direction of staff, including interns
- Monitor/maintain adequate supplies
- Maintain equipment
- Monitor and maintain Joint Commission regulations
- Develop policies and procedures and continue to update regularly
- Secure upgrades in technology to provide optimal patient care
- Provide clinical data to third party medical directors/case managers as required for reimbursement
- Assist in budget preparation and planning
- Successfully collect data, apply and re-certify program through AACVPR
- Provide first ling of complain and incident reporting and response
- Bill insurance companies
- Develop and expand program
- Clinical Patient Responsibilities
- Deliver direct, quality patient care for the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program
- Perform patient evaluation, including patient history, outcomes surveys, one on one verbal education along with vitals taken
- Create, implement and update individual exercise prescription plan from start to completion of program
- Follows policies and procedures and standard of care related to patients
- Communicates regularly with physicians regarding changes in patient condition and general updates to physician
- Monitor cardiac rehab patient throughout visits
- Provide patient education one-on-one and small group setting verbally and written.
- Daily session documentation
- Working collaboratively to assess and perform 30 day treatment plan documentation on each individual patient
- Patient Recruitment
- Receive and process all referrals from in system and out of system hospitals
- Collect patient insurance information and process
- Set up registration with staff
- Follow up on referral process
- Education
- Perform 1:1 education sessions with interns
- Schedule intern observations throughout system
- Coordinate and edit intern patient education lectures
- Act as department representative when providing information to general public, national and international communities
- Coordinate and contract with legal department to set up internship opportunities for students
- Assist with pulmonary rehabilitation where education on heart disease and exercise is provided.
- Aid in exercise prescription and progression of patients through pulmonary rehabilitation

- Interview candidates for internships and staff members
- Train interns and staff members
- Develop, evaluate and implement orientation processes for interns and new employees
- Complete mid-year and yearly reviews
- Complete yearly competencies
