Job Responsibilities:

The RCM Operations Program Director provides strategic direction and analytically-driven recommendations to various revenue cycle functions to ensure premier revenue cycle operations. This individual will need to be an entrepreneur of their area of ownership, proactively identifying areas for growth and helping to execute the solutions. The role requires individuals to seek out industry best practices and bring those recommendations to key stakeholders for approval. The individual will act as an agent of change in support of complex Revenue Cycle initiatives. This position provides expertise as it relates to billing and patient financial processes, while ensuring compliance with organizational, federal, state & third-party requirements. The position requires extensive knowledge of Epic and other Revenue Cycle IT systems and how to best utilize the functionality and features.

The RCM Operations Program Director will also oversee the Denials Prevention Taskforce, including directly managing all analysts as well as the Program Manager over the taskforce. Will oversee all hospital denial prevention initiatives and improvement projects across the Johns Hopkins Health System. Will be responsibility to maintain and improve taskforce processes and champion/stakeholder engagement, and ultimately improve denial metrics.

Department Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Revenue Cycle Management: Understanding of revenue cycle processes and workflows, particularly on the hospital side. Understanding of how revenue cycle processes can lead to hospital claim denials, and subsequently how they can be improved upon to reduce denials and increase collections. Understanding of payer behavior and relations and how they impact reimbursement.
  • Project Management: Strong project management skills, with ability to drive complex projects forward in challenging environments. Needs to be able to break projects down into component pieces and dependencies, plan accordingly, assign out project components to specific people, and ensure accountability is maintained to prevent stagnancy. Much be very organized, with robust task management system.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze data, interpret metrics, and generate insights for decision-making. Expert in Epic reporting preferred.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
  • Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying issues, analyzing data, developing effective solutions, and quickly seeing them through to resolution.
  • Strategic Thinking: Capability to think strategically, plan long-term, and align operations and denial prevention efforts with organization goals.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Proficient in building relationships, networking, and managing conflicts.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, set clear goals, and drive performance.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to make informed decisions quickly and effectively.
  • Operational Management: Knowledge of operational processes, project management, and process improvement.
  • Organizational Development: Understanding of organizational behavior, change management, and development strategies.

  • Technology and Systems: Proficiency with Epic Systems, project management tools, Microsoft Office, and other relevant technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business or healthcare; Master’s preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in healthcare, revenue cycle operations or related field. This can be substituted for a minimum five years of working for Epic and/or a top tier consulting firm.
  • Minimum five to seven years of progressive management experience, which can include leading and building a team or management of a team.
  • HFMA Certifications preferred
  • 1+ active Epic Proficiencies or Certifications, specifically in Revenue Cycle applications

Salary Range: $150,000 per year - $200,000 per year. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
