The Advanced Practice Provider works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive and age-appropriate care to both well and ill patients; educates patients and families, intervenes in acute or chronic illness, coordinates oncologic care between Unity, Sibley and Howard and other providers as appropriate; obtains appropriate patient histories and performs physical examinations. Other activities are in support of patient/family education, staff education, unit activities, and psychosocial care of patient and family.

Sibley Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, full service 318 bed acute care community hospital serving the Washington, DC area. Sibley offers medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetric, oncology, orthopaedic, skilled nursing inpatient services, and a state-of-the-art 24-hour Emergency Department. Sibley's campus, with its new patient tower, is also home to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, the Johns Hopkins National Proton Therapy Center, Grand Oaks -- an assisted living residence -- a medical building with physician offices and an ambulatory surgery and imaging center.

Department-specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient oncology care in support of the Solid Tumor Malignancy service.
  • Independently assess, diagnose, and manage hospitalized oncology patients, including evaluation and treatment of acute oncologic complications, development of evidence-based plans of care, and coordination of daily management in collaboration with the attending physician and interdisciplinary team.
  • Recognize, evaluate, and manage oncologic emergencies, initiating timely interventions and escalating care as clinically indicated.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, nursing, pharmacy, case management, palliative care, and other consulting services to optimize patient outcomes, facilitate safe transitions of care, and ensure continuity across the care continuum.
  • Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic studies; prescribe medications, supportive oncology therapies, blood products, and symptom management treatments within scope of practice; and perform approved bedside procedures in accordance with departmental credentialing and institutional policies.
  • Provide patient, family, and caregiver education regarding cancer diagnoses, treatment plans, symptom management, goals of care, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
  • Provide clinical coverage in the ambulatory oncology setting.

Department Preferred Education:

  • Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing for NP for MSN (NP). Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (NP)
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Department Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Department Preferred Licensure, Certification, Registration: Active licensure from the DC DOH as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • NPs: Certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP)
  • PAs: Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of the Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • DC Controlled Substances License
  • Federal DEA License
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification

Department Preferred Experience: Preferred experience in medical oncology, including both inpatient and ambulatory (outpatient) oncology practice.

Salary Range: Minimum 63.31/hour - Maximum 98.13/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
