Child Life Activity Technician

Summary: Provide therapeutic, developmentally appropriate activities and a safe play environment for pediatric patients and families to support coping, normalization, and diversion during hospitalization. Supervise volunteers and pet therapy programs, lead community event interactions, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team.

Shift:

Tuesday – Friday 9-5:30

Saturday 8-4:30

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming Activity Center (monitor entry, infection control, décor, toys, and materials).
  • Plan and deliver bedside and group activities tailored to developmental needs for normalization and distraction.
  • Recruit, orient, train, and supervise Child Life volunteers, pet therapy teams, community visitors, and Project SEARCH interns; lead interactions with patients and families.
  • Coordinate and lead safe, engaging community events and in-hospital programs.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate child life goals into care plans and communicate patient needs.
  • Document participation, safety checks, and activity usage to support staffing and program quality.
  • Use creativity, time/resource management, and strong communication to adapt interventions for individual and group needs.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Child Development, Family Studies, Education, Psychology, or related field; OR
  • High school diploma/GED plus 30 hours coursework in a related field; OR
  • High school diploma/GED plus Florida DCF Birth–Five Training Certificate; OR
  • High school diploma/GED plus 5 years pediatric experience.
  • Current CPR/AED (infant, child, adult).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication, group facilitation, and computer skills.
  • Ability to assess developmental needs (visual/auditory acuity), manage emotional/physical stress, and work with diverse populations.

Preferred:

  • Experience in child life, pediatric settings, volunteer or pet therapy program oversight.

Salary Range: Minimum 17.97/hour - Maximum 28.74/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
