POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patient Service Coordinator will handle all administrative (non-clinical) aspects of the patient encounter, assisting each and every patient to achieve the Ideal Patient Encounter, and maintaining accurate information on each patient to facilitate the encounter. Offers friendly, courteous assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive, professional experience while at Johns Hopkins. Since most administrative tasks will be expedited with the use of automated scheduling, registration and billing systems, the patient coordinator will need to be proficient on the appropriate computer systems.
COMPETENCIES:
A. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
B. Knowledge: Knowledge of business, insurance and/or medical terminology and an excellent command of English grammar and spelling.
C. Skills: - Ability to interact successfully with the public. Ability to perform effectively despite sudden deadlines and changing priorities; maintaining personal composure in high stress situations. - Ability to demonstrate and convey a favorable image of the organization and to conform to proper standards of professional dress, attitude and demeanor. Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, patients’ families/visitors and clinical staff. - Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and with meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrate a strong ability to use initiative and judgment and to identify, analyze and solve problems. - Ability to proficiently operate PC’s and PC applications. - Typing 30 wpm; data entry 5000-7000 keystrokes with ≤10% error rate; following directions with 80% success rate.
D. Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: EPIC certification required within 90 days. Medical terminology certification required or must pass JHH medical terminology assessment with grade of 70% or complete 10-12 week medical terminology course with grade of 70% within first year of employment to maintain position.
E. Work Experience PSC I - six months PSC II - six months to one year PSC III - one year F. Machines, Tools, equipment: Requires proficiency on multi-line telephone, computer, copier, calculator, fax machine, all computer systems including scheduling, registration, billing, order communications, Radiology Information System (RIS), EPR, Application Xtender and charge capture, etc.
DIMENSIONS:
A. Budget Responsibility: Effectively uses resources within control.
B. Authority/Decision Making Level: Prioritizes and organizes own work and the work of others to meet department demands. PSC III only - Makes decisions regarding work process based on established guidelines (i.e., covering for manager). Assists in the development of procedures for the unit. C. Supervisory Responsibility: PSC III only - Provide guidance and direction to staff and/or temporary employees when appropriate. PROBLEM SOLVING: Independently evaluates individual patient or patient flow situations and be able to implement the appropriate actions/steps in a timely fashion.
INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: - Read and understand requisitions, referral forms, insurance forms and other forms. - Reads and understands all screens on registration and charge capture screens. - Reads and understands written product directions. WORKING CONDITIONS: - Works in a normal office environment where there are no physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc. - Work requires visual acuity. - Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents without likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. - Requires ability to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of time.
Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
