Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant I to join our dynamic inpatient orthopedic surgery team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside a highly collaborative and autonomous APP team supporting orthopedic trauma, total joint, and subspecialty surgical services.
This role offers a unique balance of inpatient care, ED consults, and perioperative management, along with opportunities to participate in the operating room. Providers in this role practice at the top of their license in a supportive, team-oriented environment with strong physician and resident collaboration.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive inpatient orthopedic care, including pre-operative optimization, perioperative management, and post-operative care
- Evaluate and manage orthopedic consults in the Emergency Department (adult and limited pediatric population)
- Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, residents, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes
- Participate in shared team-based coverage model for inpatient units and consult services
- Assist in the operating room as needed, including scrubbing into orthopedic surgical cases
- Support care of elective surgical patients requiring inpatient admission
- Contribute to a high-autonomy practice environment while maintaining strong collaboration with team members
Schedule:
- Full-time, 3 shifts per week (13-hour shifts)
- Primarily day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) with Rotating night shift coverage required (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- No traditional call requirements; night shifts function as in-house coverage
Opportunity for dedicated night shift role available; Mon, Tues, Wed 7p – 7a and four days off/week.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- NCCPA certification required
- Maryland State License (or eligibility) required
- DEA/CDS (or ability to obtain)
- New graduates are welcome to apply; prior orthopedic or surgical experience is preferred but not required
- Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Salary Range: Minimum 58.03/hour - Maximum 89.94/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
