Position Summary

In collaboration with patients, families, social workers, physicians, and the interdisciplinary team, the Mental Health Therapist II (MHT II) provides direct psychological, social, and practical care. Responsibilities include psychological assessment, problem identification, goal setting, behavioral interventions, care plan implementation, and support with discharge planning, patient/family education, crisis intervention, grief counseling, and abuse reporting.

Essential Functions

  • Independently diagnoses patients and completes diagnostic intakes in accordance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments and develops plans of care.
  • Provides psychotherapy and psychosocial support to an assigned caseload.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care and support patient outcomes.
  • Documents assessments, interventions, and progress clearly, accurately, and on time.
  • Maintains referral networks and connects patients with community resources.
  • Monitors medication effectiveness and side effects, and consults with physicians as needed.
  • Assists with referrals, guardianships, adoptions, psychiatric placement, abuse/neglect/IPV assessment, end-of-life planning, and charity care.
  • Facilitates family meetings as needed.
  • Uses Feedback Informed Care (FIT) per Joint Commission requirements.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement activities, and committees as assigned.
  • Provides on-call coverage and may conduct home visits.
  • Mentors staff and students; may provide LGPC supervision if approved.
  • May participate in research, grants, publications, and education.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree in Applied Psychology or related field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of community resources and the psychosocial impact of illness.
  • Ability to work independently in a mental health or health care setting.
  • Strong assessment, counseling, conflict resolution, and treatment planning skills.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple sources of information into a biopsychosocial plan.
  • Strong prioritization, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic records and standard office technology.

Required Licensure

  • Valid LCPC

Salary Range: Minimum 34.62/hour - Maximum 57.19/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
