Howard County General Hospital in Columbia, MD is hiring for an Echocardiograph Technician.

Schedule: 

  • Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
  • Occasional weekends required

Requirements

The Echocardiographic Technician performs and is responsible for conducting inpatient and outpatient echocardiographic studies, transophageal (TEE), stress echo echocardiograms, and doppler flow analysis of the heart and related structures for use by physicians in diagnosing heart disease. The echocardiography laboratory performs all aspects of ultrasound imaging – transthoracic, transophageal, and stress. Provides direct patient care to patients of all ages.

  • Provides quality cardiodiagnostic and non-invasive testing.
  • Contributes to the effective daily operation of the Echocardiogram lab including interactions with echo students, physicians, and other medical professionals.   
  • Conducts echocardiography studies for inpatients and outpatients, emergency room/short stay unit patients, pediatric and neonatal hospital patients, including two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography, color flow Doppler, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echocardiogram (in-hospital), and stress echocardiography. Assists with schedules and assists with evaluation of equipment/procedures. Schedules, prepares, administers, and reports interpretations of echocardiograms, M-mode, 2 dimensional, Doppler, color flow mapping, transophageal imaging, stress echo and assists cardiologist.
  • Moves and lifts patients of various weights, size, and age to and from beds and ambulatory equipment.  Preps and positions patient for studies, while maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and safety.
  • Advises cardiologist of results of examination and provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation.
  • Provides competent and proficient technical skills in cardiac ultrasounds, implementing procedural standards and protocols for these modalities. Ability to operate ultrasound imaging equipment and video recording equipment. Assists in the care and maintenance of practice of ultrasonic imaging and video recording equipment. Participates in department quality assurance program and accreditation.
  • Work frequently requires internal contacts outside the work group to exchange work-related information. 
  • Contact with external contacts involves providing or getting factual information. 

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High school or GED equivalent required.
  • Completion from an accredited sonography program in Echocardiography and two (2) years experience of non-invasive cardiology in echocardiography studies.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required.
  • BLS CPR certification required.
